The New York Botanical Garden Plants of U.S. A. Betulaceae Betula populifolia Marshal det. M. Nee, 2008 Pennsylvania, Clearfield Co., along Hwy. 1-80 and Hwy. 879 at turnoff to Clearfield. Grove of spontaneous small trees on roadside, Betula populifolia, Populus tremuloides. 41°02'18"N, 78°23'56"W. alt. 360 m. Small tree; bark smooth, white, with black triangles where branches attached. Same population and perhaps the same tree collected in flower on 29 April 2008 under Nee 55598 (distributed to MEXU, MO, NY, PE). Aments nodding in fruit, green with some dull purplish brown on insolated side, Coll.: M. Nee 55968 1 Sept. 2008 02477506
