I&M Canal Trail # 30 and State Street, at northwest
corner of former smelting facility above quarry. Mostly
the site of former smelter dump and quarries, not
currently used. South of east - west powerline access
road. Joliet 7.5' quadrangle (1993). Crushed dolomite;
barrens dumping area on old refinery land, below ridge
Disturbed low area, little natural quality. With Cornus
stolonifera, Carex, Quercus velutina, Aster praealtus.
Local, infrequent small tree 4 meters tall, trunk 7
centimeters DBH, fruit essentially mature, buds shiny
green; about 6 individuals, various ages.
