North side of Tunk Lake, south side of Maine Route 182, about 5.5 miles west of Unionville Road, 6.5 miles west of Cherryfield. Elevation about 210 ft. Acidic peat over sand and gravel with numerous smoothed glacial boulders; glacial lake. Boreal conifer forest, - white cedar swamp mix with hardwood forest elements, dominated locally by Thuja occidentalis, Betula, Abies balsamea, Fraxinus, Tsuga canadensis. Locally common small tree 20 feet tall, bark white to sooty grey on main trunks, lenticels conspicuous; fruits green, pendulous. Steven R.
