Betula lenta L.
NEW YORK, SUFFOLK CO.: Huntington Station, in the Paumonek
Wetland, west of Walt Whitman High School, on raised slope 1.5 m from
Paumonek Drive. Medium sized tree approx. 10.67 m tall. Broken twigs
emit strong wintergreen scent. Catkins yellow-green, anthers and pollen
yellow. Growing in an Oak-Hickory Mesic Woodland with Alliaria
petiolata, Prunus, Lonicera japónica, Acer rubrum, Quercus rubra, and
Robinia pseudoacacia.
