GASPE PENINSULA: Edge of spruce-fir forest along Lake Thibault, about 20 km airline south of Ste.-Anne-des- -Monts. Elevation ca 450 m. Colonial shrubs 2-4 m tall. Leaves with mostly 10-12 lateral veins per side, soon becoming pale and glaucous beneath. Pistillate cones sessile or nearly so. Growing with #11782, Alnus viridis var. crispa (Michx.) (continued) HERBARIUM DF THE NEW YORK BOTANICAL GARDEN PLANTS OF QUEBEC Alnus incana (L.) Moench var. glauca (Marshall) Aiton f. House, which differs in its evidently slender- -pedunculate cones, and in its leaves with 6-8 lateral veins per side, light green and shiny beneath, not becoming glaucous.
