GASPE PENINSULA: Edge of spruce-fir forest along Lake
Thibault, about 20 km airline south of Ste.-Anne-des-
-Monts. Elevation ca 450 m.
Colonial shrubs 2-4 m tall. Leaves with mostly 10-12
lateral veins per side, soon becoming pale and glaucous
beneath. Pistillate cones sessile or nearly so.
Growing with #11782, Alnus viridis var. crispa (Michx.)

House, which differs in its evidently slender-
-pedunculate cones, and in its leaves with 6-8 lateral
veins per side, light green and shiny beneath, not
becoming glaucous.
