River, opposite Muscoda.
T 8 N; R 1 W; SEtt NW% Sect. 1.
43°12’06”N, 90°26’33”W. alt. 660 ft.
Brushy, grassy areas, edge of floodplain woods of Acer
saccharinum, Quercus bicolor, along highway causeway.
Many shrubs 2-4 m. tall, naturalized, all six numbers {Nee
54385-54390) from different plants to collect the range of
variation, and most plants collected seem to key to L. x bella.
Corollas range in all shades from pure white to dark pink, some
fading yellowish, others not. Only no. Nee 54386 and possibly no.
Nee 54389 could be. L. tatarica (glabrous leaves and twigs). No
L. morrowii (bracteoles nearly equalling the ovary in anthesis)
was collected here.
This plant: Corolla light pink in bud, much lighter pink when
open, fading yellowish. Determination based on glabrous stems
and leaves.
