PALMS OF VIETNAM Vietnam. Ha Tinh Province: Vu Quang District, Vu Quang National Park, road from Park Headquarters to Border Army Post, forest near Border Army Post, 18°20’N, 105°26’E, ca. 100 m elevation. 19 Jul 2007. Calamus platyacanthus “song” Stems solitary, 15 m tall, 4 cm diameter with leaf sheaths. Sheaths yellow, with reddish-brown tomentum, densely covered with yellow, flat, downward-pointing spines; knees present; ocreas obscure; petioles 3 cm long; rachis 160 cm long with 22 regularly arranged pinnae per side. Pistillate plant; rachillae zig-zag, to 5 cm long. A. Henderson & Ninh Khac Ban 3436 Field work carried out in collaboration with the Institute of Ecology and Biological Resources, Hanoi, and funded by a Fulbright Program Research Award.
