Description
Pileus 3.5-6 cm broad, convex to plano-convex, dry, black, with fine to flattened felt-like scales. Flesh white, slowly and obscurely changing to pale red before gray to nearly black. Tubes adnexed, dark gray to black or dark brown, with pores grayish white staining pale reddish then black. Stipe 4-8 cm long, 5-10 mm broad, equal, strict or curved, dry, with a dark grayish brown to black appressed felty tomentum over a reticulate surface, with an appressed annular zone near apex, with interior white with black grayish streaks, staining dull red then black, with basal mycelium obscured by soil.
