Saxicolous on sandstone.

outcrops and adjacent mixed grass prairie with Bouteloua gracilis,
Buchloe dactyloides, Opuntia polyacantha, Hesperostlpa comata,
Bromus tectorum, Rhus trilobata, Celtis reticulata, Thallctrum
dasycarpum, Elymus canadensis, Toxicodendron rydbergii, and
Pascopyrum smithii. Saxicolous on sandstone; spores of Staurothele
muriform, hyaline quickly turning brown, 2/ascus, ascus tips 1+ blue;
this species / collection is being parasitized by Heteroplacidium
zamenhofianum (Clauzade & Cl. Rous) Cl. Roux (spores simple,
hyaline, 8/ascus).
