Filaments sparingly branched, flexuose, 25 mic. in diameter; sheaths narrow*straight,
smooth; trichomes 17 mic. in diameter, more or less intensely bluish-purple (azureus,
cyaneus) in color, often torulose; cells quadrate or shorter than broad; heterocysts
somewhat globose or quadrate, yellowish-green.
With other al^e forming a layer covering rocks on bottom and sides of basin of “warm
spring.” Temperature at 7 A. M., 31+° C.
Puna, Hawaii, Hawaiian Islands.

Plant mass brownish; filaments 15-21 mic. in diameter, tortuose, intricate; sheaths lamel-
lose, dark brown; trichomes 6-12 mic. in diameter, yellowish-green; heterocysts 8.5x16
mie., subquadrate or longer than the diameter.
Forming brownish tufts attached to rocks and logs in basin of river at base of falls.
Current of stream slow.
Waialuka River at Falls, four miles from mouth, Hawaii, Hawaiian Islands.
