Plant mass somewhat membranaceous, at first solid, tuberculate, becoming hemispherical,
more or less wrinkled on upper surface, adhering to rock by lower surface, 2-6 mm.
in diameter, made up of cells included in a gelatinous substance, showing a radial ar-
rangement in longitudinal section, and densely aggregated at .the periphery; peripheral
cells club-shaped with thicker ends directed towards the periphery; upper portion oí
cell entirely lined by chloroplastid containing large central pyrenoid; lower portion of
cell narrow, without chloroplastid, usually containing vacuole and minute granular
bodies, tapering downward, ending in a sharp point; cells near substratum globular in
shape, inclosed in a very thick gelatinous membrane, giving rise below to a colorless
cylindrical filament adhering to substratum; dimensions of cells: 10x5 mic.—10x8 mic.-*-
10x7 mic.—10x5 mic.—10x10 mic.; gonidangia (gametangia?) formed directly from
vegetative cells; zoogonidia 8-16 in number, each containing a conspicuous central
pyrenoid.

lata in Algae of Northwestern America 204. 1903 and as no. 909 in Collins, Holden and
