Growing epiphytically on Zostera marina Linnaeus var. marina in
the upper subtidal zone. Near the entrance to False Bay, San Juan
Island, Washington, U.S.A. (Lat. 48°29'N. 123°4'W.).
DESCRIPTION: Thallus purplish red in colour, epiphytic, up to 10 cm.
high with numerous obovate to cuneate monostromatic blades arising from
a prostrate cushion-like base.

Growing on rocks in the lower intertidal zone. South of Deadman
Bay, San Juan Island, Washington, U.S.A. (Lat. 48°37'N. Long.

DESCRIPTION: Thallus up to 25 cm. high, with a few long branches,
progressively smaller toward apex; branches of all orders densely clothed
with short branchlets all of approximately the same length; brownish black
to black in colour.

DESCRIPTION: Thallus a branched filament, up to 30 cm. high, grass
green to dark green in colour; branching of thallus irregular, with distal
portions of the filamentous system entangled into rope-like strands.

DESCRIPTION: Thallus a flat blade, unbranched but usually deeply lacer-
ated into several lobes; tapering rapidly toward a short stipitate region and ‘
attached by a small discoid holdfast; brownish purple to black in colour.
