Habitat
With Aster, Solidago, partly shaded edge of woods, N side of open park and ballfields; this area was once part of the New York Botanical Garden. This species here forms a dense patch and almost has the appearance of a planted species or escaped from cultivation.

Description
Herbs to 2m tall. Inflorescence deep pink-red, the spikes hanging or nodding. Phenology of specimen: Flower.

Matching some specimens from China. Leaf shape and size and the long drooping inflorescences match this species. Of the 86 sheets of P. lapathifolium at NY from New York and New Jersey, only these others have ciliate ochreae (but often not apparent in mature specimens) and ochreoleae, and in this character resembling P. persicaria L.
