Stratum very thin, when dry forming- a violet colored calcareous crust;
filaments straight; branches erect, sometimes appressed to stem, ends
of branches somewhat attenuate; articulations 11—12 mik. in diame-
ter, 24 mik. in length; sporule-bearing branches short, in upper por-
tion of plant; sporules in general 2 or 3 upon a branch.
Together with Chaetophora calcarea, Dichothrix calcarea, Lyngbya rrtar-
tensiana var. calcarea, and L. nana, forming the calcareous crust on
sides of old tank and on twigs, in the water.
