  • Georeferencing Method

    Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Georeferenced to the approximate geographic center of the mouth of Rio Javari (synonymous with Rio Yavari) in Benjamin Constant, Amazonas. Using Google Maps - Satellite View, located the mouth of Rio Javari, a tributary of Rio Solimões. Used Canadensys Lat/Long Crosshairs to find the coordinates of the approximate geographic center of the mouth of the river (at the confluence of Rio Javari and Rio Solimões), on the adjacent shore. Used Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) to find the linear extent by measuring from the selected coordinates to the farthest extent of the confluence of waterways. Input coordinates, linear extent (1787.78 m.), and measurement error (.01 m.) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius (according to Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Named Place: Mouth or headwaters of a river, confluence of waterways, trailhead). Site is located in the município Benjamin Constant, not São Paulo de Olivença. These municípios are adjacent.
