The young plants of this species somewhat resemble the young L. sac-
charina, but are more distinctly linear, and show no trace of the
lines of indentations that usually appear at an early stage in L. saccharina.
The fronds appear to reach their full growth in October or November, and
to disappear entirely in the winter.
