Frond cylindrical below, compressed above, brown, .5-2 meters in length
repeatedly pinnate; pinnae and pinnulae narrow, alternate, fringed with
tufts of green filaments or margined with awl-shaped alternate spines ;
stem and branches traversed by an articulated filament surrounded by a
layer of cells somewhat equal in size.
Attached to white fir log washed up on shore.
North Bay, San Juan island, Washington.
