Growing unattached in tangled tufts resting on mud or sand
among Spartina, etc.; fruiting most abundantly at or about high water
mark in late winter or spring. Receptacles sometimes 7 or 8 cm. long;
generally, if not always, exclusively antheridial in this locality.
