The prostrate filaments are well developed when the plant grows on mud, less so when on stones or Ruppia. It has been abundant at this station for V several years, from July to November, but no fruit of any kind has yet been found. Though slender and apparently delicate, it endures without injury ex- posure at low tide for several hours to the full heat of the sun, becoming quite dry and brittle; also exposure to heavy rain for the same length of time; in both cases resuming its normal condition with the return of the tide. 02222825 02222826
