The prostrate filaments are well developed when the plant grows on mud,
less so when on stones or Euppia. It has bppn abundant at this station for
V	several yenrs, from July to November, but no fruit of any kind has yet been
found. Though slender and apparently delicate, it endures without injury ex-
posure at low tide for several hours to the full heat of the sun, becoming quite
dry and brittle; also exposure to h«avy rain for the same length of time; in
both cases resuming its normal condition with the return of the tide.
