J. G. Agardh, Sp. Alg., Vol. II, p. 898,1863.
Upper sublitoral zone, west coast of Whidbey Island, Wash-
ington, Aug., 1899.
Common throughout the season but fruits in August.
'	N. L. GARDNER.
a.	With cystocarps.
b.	With tetraspores.
This commonest and coarsest Odonthalia of Puget Sound is
referred provisionally to this species. It approaches closely to
O. dentata (L.) Lyng., and to O. Kamtschatica (Rupr.) J. Ag.,
from the former of which it seems to differ in its dentiform to
subulate branchlets, and cystocarps usually ecalcarate; while
from the latter it seems to differ in the abbreviated rachis of the
pinnules bearing tetraspores or cystocarps. Miss Tilden has
has distributed the same plant, in sterile condition, under No.
312 of her American Algae.
