This alga forms a low pulvinate mass to 2 cm. high. The thallus
is irregularly, dichotomously branched in all direction, forming a
hemispherical frond. The apex of the branches is generally obtuse.
A section of the thallus shows that it is consisted of a peripheral layer
of moniliform dichotomous filaments and a medulla of longitudinally
running filments. The carpogonial branch consists of three or four
cells, arising as a special secondary branch on the peripheral filaments.
The thallus is very slimy and gelatinous, turning to cartilaginous
when dried.
