The name proposed above is designed to include the simplest forms
of this very variable species. The fronds are either simple or split to
the very base into a few simple, oblong, oblong-lanceolate or falcate
divisions. Under this name is included the form figured by C. Agardh
(loc. cit.) as the type. This form is characteristic of a zone high up on
the rocks, at or very near high water mark.
