Two sets of very young specimens are referable to this
species. They are only 4-6 times regularly dichotomously branched,
attaining a height of 7 cm. The fragile thallus is shortly stalked
and distinctly articulate. The internodes are cylindrical or elliptical
obovoid, to 4 mm. diam. and 2 cm. long. The assimilating tissue
consists of two layers of parenchymatous cells bound by a layer of
small obconical or lens-shaped cells which adhere compactly to each
other forming an epidermal layer, appearing 5-6 sided in surface
view. The central axis consists of slender, medullary filaments,
running very loosely. The plant is light rosy red in color.
