On densely forested steep south-facing slopes overlying sandstone. Common.

Description
Forming impenetrable thickets, with curving matted intertwining stems; shrub 15-25 feet tall; petals rich yellow; sepals pale green with rose-red margin or suffusde with rose-red; leaves coriaceous, deep green or bronze above, dull paler green below or suffused with rose or lavender especially on youngest leaves, margins purplish-red. Phenology of specimen: Flower.
