On rooks between tide marks, Pacific Grove, California, July, 1896. W. A. SETCHELL. The specimens distributed are labelled C. affinis rather than C. canaliculatus J. Ag., because the cystocarps project upon both surfaces of the frond. There are certainly forms of Chondrus upon the Cali- fornia coast of which this is not true, and there seems to be some prob- ability that there are two species of Chondrus represented.
