Joum. Proc. Linn. Soc. Bot.. 6:176. 1862;
Fronds densely tufted, 2-3.5 dm. in length, flaccid, irregularly branched;
main filaments articulated throughout, each artjculation having a pair
of opposite, subulate, simple ramuli springing from near the middle of
the articulation; lower articulations 75 mic. wide, 10-25 times as long
as'wide; upper articulations of branches 65 mic. wide, 2-3 times as long
as wide; tetragonidiaelliptical, cruciate, bom on short processes (pedicel-
late); cystocarps in pairs or threes, near ends of branches ; antheridia
minute cells, numerous on upper branches.
On bulb and upper stipe of a large floating Nereocystis luetkiana.
Friday Harbor dock, San Juan island, Washington.
