Description
Basidiomes grayish orange to brownish orange (5A-B5,4,3) nearly overall. Pileus 10-15 cm broad, plano-convex to plane, even at margin, dry, with flattened to felty volval remnants. Flesh white in pileus, whitish to yellowish white in stipe, not staining, with strong "lepidella" odor, becoming increasingly unpleasant; not tasted. Lamellae free, brownish orange (5B5), crowded, with barely eroded, fimbriate edges; lamellulae not truncate. Stipe 12-17 cm long, 2-2.5 cm broad near apex, 4.5 cm broad at bulbous base (not abrupt, tapered in one, truncate bottom in other), dry, with double partial veil, appressed fibrillose above, becoming more squamulose toward base, with the squamules appressed. Upper partial veil skirt-like and pendant from stipe apex, thickened at free margin, with scalloped tissue on underside near edge. Lower partial veil is half way to two thirds way down stipe, annular, triangular in cross section.
