The thalius is elongated and divided into lobes. Younger speci-
mens collected in December are about 10-12 cm. high and are irre-
gularly dichotomously branched in a flabellate manner. Specimens
collected in April are very much longer, reaching a height of 60 cm.
At the basal part, the thallus is broader, gradually attenuating upwards
and once or twice dichotomously branched. I he color is of a dark
green. In transverse section, the cells appear elongated vertically.
Cell walls are very thick. The thallus is about 70-80^ thick.
HAB. On rocks and in rock pools in the litoral region, Shek-O,
Hong Kong, in December (Tseng 252)\ Stanley, Hong Kong, in April
(Tseng 262\, and Hai-mun, Swatow, in April (Tseng 580).
DISTR. Red Sea; West Indies; Japan. Widely distributed in
warmer waters.
