in single straight or curved series; tegument thick, lamellate,
or not so colorless.

BEMUSES.- I am indebted to Mr. ¿ustin' for specimens of this littlp
plant, which he found growing in a swamp near Closter, northern
Hew Jersey, on a young pin oak, It foxms a sort of crustaceous
powder, with little aggregations here and there, of a dull red-
dish-brown color, i/hen these little masses, are broken up,
they are found to be composed of littel series of very closely
joined cells, generally a half dozen to a dozen in the row.
believe that at certain states of their growth these cells are
green, as many of them hav a very decided green tint on their
edges, and I have seen one or two of them quite green.
