Thallus forming a gelatinous, verrucose, irregular stratum 1 cm. or
more in thickness, becoming brick red (latericius) in upper portions
where exposed to sun; cells globose or oblong-elliptical, 8—15 mik. in
diameter, solitary or 2, 4, 8 in a family; membrane of cells thick, mu-
cous, hyaline, distinctly lamellose; contents chlorophyll green, becom-
ing orange red (aurantiacus).

Pool in small stream.
