RANCHO SANTA ANA BOTANIC GARDEN Flora of Los Angeles County, California, USA ASTERACEAE Coreopsis bigelovii (A. Gray) H. M. Hall Liebre Mountains region, Plum Canyon southwest of Cruzan Mesa along Arline Road ca 2 miles west of junction with Sierra Highway in Mint Canyon. Near 34° 27' 04.5"N 118° 27' 10.4" W. T5N R15W NW 1/4 NE 1/4 sec. 9. Elev. ca. 2000 ft. Eroded sedimentary hills weathering to cobbley clay soils. Elevated bench on north side of canyon supporting well developed vernal pool, now dessicated. Slopes with scrub of Prunus ilicifolia, Heteromeles arbutifolia, Adenostoma fasciculatum, Artemisia califomica, Eriogonum fasciculatum, and Yucca whipplei. Vernal pool bed with Psilocarphus brevissimus, Deschampsia danthonioides, Hemizonia fasciculata, and Bromus hordeaceus. Annual, flowers bright yellow. Locally common on open, steep, xeric slopes.
