Aster alpinus L. var. vierhapperi (Onno) Cronquist AST

GILPIN CO.: northeast base of Kingston Peak, 4.8 mi
WSW of Apex, 3,500 msm. On a dry saddle of flat to
gentle slope. Locally abundant but confined to residual
patches of shallow turf, not found on the gravelly
substrate typical of the site. Rays ranging from deep
violet to white. This locality is only a few miles as the
crow flies, from the original locality, Berthoud Pass, of
Tweedy of 1903, the type of A. culminis A Nels.
