Habitat
Brushy flat. Hot flats of gray to white sand, with little or no humus, partly open with bunch-grass and scattered shrubs, maintained open apparently by fires. In some places the brush is thicker, becoming sparse forest, in others are hammock-like patches of deeper woods with large trees, in other are small streams lined with brush or trees and open marshy banks.

Description
Weak shrub 1 m. tall, spreading, fls. greenish but with crimson, strongly exserted stamens. Phenology of specimen: Flower.
