Habitat
Summit area with a mosaic of woodland (Quercus kelloggii, Q. chrysolepis), chaparral, and grassland. Occasional in sunny openings to the north of the knoll.

Herbaceous perennial from fleshy rhizomatous stems, corollas scarlet, orangish-cream in the throat. Phenology of specimen: Flower.
