UPPER BIG TUJUNGA CANYON: Ridge and slopes
descending ± ENE from THORN (Triangulation Point
5499-ft) toward Big Tujunga Creek (about 0.6-1.6 air-
miles ENE of Barley Flats). Chilao Flat USGS 7.5' quad;
T2N R11W, SW/4 SW/4 east to SE/4 SE/4 sect 5;
elevation ca 4100-5100 feet.
Upper ridgetop an old firebreak; remaining slopes
vested in fairly dense chaparral with Quercus chrysolepis
woodland occurring in patches in the more mesic lateral
draws.
Tufted perennial with a fairly strict inflorescence;
spikelets ca 8-fld; glumes 3 & 7 veined, 12 & 14.5 mm
long, respectively; lemma awns ca 9.5-11.5 mm
