In sandy loam (Arkport, Dunkirk, and Colonie soils, 20 to 60 percent slopes, eroded; coarse-loamy to fine-silty, mixed, active, mesic Lamellic or Glossic Hapludalfs, or mixed, mesic Lamellic Udipsamments). Growing with Pinus rígida, P. strobus, Quercus rubra, Q. velutina, & Sassafras albidum. In front of a house (not cultivated; an original forest tree) owned by Jerome & Gail McElroy, at 223 Dewitt Rd.
