Cornell University, L.H. Bailey Hoitorium (BH) PLANTS OF NEW YORK Quercus coccínea Muenchh. FAGACEAE Tree 50ft tall, trunk diameter 18in. Acorn shape strongly resembling Q. ellipsoidalis (in general), but lacking the pubescence on the scales that is typical of that species. Twigs and leaves collected off the ground, dropped by squirrels and wind. Uncommon, probably planted, growing in clay soil at the west side of a parking lot across the street from (to the south of) the club house by the parking lot at Genesee Valley Golf Course, by East River Rd.
