Note: "Examination of unopened buds shows that the calyx is closed and suggests the Section Laceraria. If that is correct, then the plant must be M. aureoides or some very closely allied undescribed species. The plant is accepted as aureoides with reservation. H.A.G. Dec. 1930."; "Spruce 4519 in Gray Herb. has more prominently plinerved leaves and coarser and denser pubescence. Still, I believe this plant is aureoides. H.A.G., 6 Feb 1931."
