In shallow soil on ridgetops. Closely grazed annual grassland of Bromus rubens, Schismus, Erodium cicutarium, Astragalus lentiginosus, Plagiobothrys canescens, Lasthenia californica, Isocoma menziesii (scarce), etc. Near large rounded sandstone outcrops.
