Location
El Salvador. Santa Ana. Close to the road running W from Metapan through the village of Ostua towards the village of SAn Jeronimo at the GUatemalan frontier; about 17 km west of Metapan in low hills north of Lago de Guija.

Habitat
Scattered roadside shrub with Albizia caribea, GUazuma ulmifolia and Acacia farnesiana. Frequent.

Description
Small branchy tree to 4 m. ht. Spiny. Foliage discolorous, mid green above, paler below. Flowers in open spikes with a weak musky fragrance; calyx and corolla pale green, stamen filaments white. Ripe unripe and dehisced pods; unripe pods green and gnarled; ripe pods dehiscing from the apex; large jet-black shiny seeds sunk into a fleshy fibrous bright scarlet pendulous aril; endocarp cream streaked red. Phenology of specimen: Flower, Fruit.
