Description
Pileus 7-8 cm broad, convex, dry, black to gray, with fine pyramidal scales that are erect on the disc and appressed to recurved toward the margin; margin with appendiculate light gray veil remnants. Flesh white, changing to red then black. Hymenophore tubulose, adnexed, with tubes gray to black, staining red then black, with pores gray staining red then black. Stipe 9.5 x 1 cm, equal, slightly curved, dry, gray above, black below, elongate alveolate-reticulate above, wooly lanose below, with interior as in pileus. N.B. See 8514 for immature material in which the young veil is pendant from the pileus margin and sheaths the stipe in the same manner as Boletellus ananas.
