Moist montane forest (in ravine and some slopes) or moist Pinus occidentalis forest (on ridges and some slopes). Plants of moist montane forest, not along rivers or in pine forest (as the related Miconia sp. nov.). This species occurs in both pine forest and moist montane forest. Common.

Shrub to 4.5 m tall; flowers with petals red, style red, stamens white. Phenology of specimen: Flower.
