    Dominican Republic. Barahona. Monteada Nueva Region, S on Cabral-Polo Road, then 5.9 km SE on "riverbed road" and ca. 0.15 km more on turn-off toward Monteada Nueva (peak is Loma Trocha de Pey).

  • Habitat

    Very disturbed and patchy cloud forest remnants; area mostly pasture now. Associates: Leandra limoides, Clidemia umbellata, Miconia subcompressa, Mecranium ovatum, Calyptranthes, Laplacea, Brunellia comocladifolia, Persea, Ocotea, Myrsine coriacea, Solanum spp., Pinus occidentalis, Meliosma impressa, Gomodesia lindeniana, Piper aduncum, Rondeletia, Lobelia rotundifolia, Asclepias nivea, Columnea domingensis, Piper umbellata, Gyrotaenia myriocarpa, Pilea spp., Coccoloba, Cyathea, Weinmannia pinnata, Psychotria pubescens, Gesneria, Weiganda, Pteridium caudatum, Phytolacca rivinoides. Locally common.

    Shrubs to 3 m tall; petals rose-pink, anthers white; fruit deep purple-black. Phenology of specimen: Flower.
