Pterogyne nitens Tul. BRAZIL: Bahia: 10 km along estrada de terra from Livramento do Brumado to Rio de Contas. C. 41°49'W, 13°37'S Roadside capoeira amongst campos gerais. Multiple-stemmed, heavily coppiced roadside tree to 8.5 m with smooth greyish brown bark and brown horizontal lenticels, trunks up to 45 cm diam. Leaflets semi-coriaceous, shiny mid-green above, slightly paler below. Flowers strongly and sweetly scented of lemons, pale yellowish. ’Big bang' flowering after rains, within about 5 days all flowers past and young winged fruits developing. Spirit material, wood sample, photographs, fruits separate from different tree collected a few days later but these the result of an earlier flowering. G.P.
