    Dominican Republic. Independencia. Along the International Highway (Route 541), well N of Pedernales, relatively close to Puerto Escondido; "El Cielo", near the crest of the Sierra de Bahoruco, above El Aguacate, just outside to just inside the Sierra de Bahoruco National Park boundary.

    Degraded cloud forest remnants, with Lobelia robusta, Mecranium multiflorum, Miconia lanceolata, M. ferruginea, Baccharis myrsinites, Cestrum spp., Phyllanthus, Cissus verticillata, Pteridium caudatum, Pilea, Rubus, Bocconia frutescens; to moist forest of Pinus occidentalis. Common.

    Shrub to 4 m tall; plants quite variable in leaf shape, indumentum, and strength of marginal teeth. Phenology of specimen: Sterile.
