    Herb, to 1.5 m tall. In clump, the leaves arising from tough mound, the bases of a cluster of leaves surrounded by a sheath of cinnamon-colored, small, pubescent roots. The stipes often partially covered by cinnamon-colored fuzz. Tufts of pubescence just below secondary pinnae. Phenology of specimen: Sterile.
