Southern Bahian Wet Forest. Soil deep, clay, light brown to reddish (lower slopes ideal for growing cocoa).

Description
Shrub, 0.5 m; leaves shiny green above, slightly paler beneath, secondary and marginal veins sunken above; inflorescences on long branches running along and beneath leaf litter and then emerging 10-20 cm high, 10-75 cm from plant, branches attaching to plant at or to 10 cm above litter; flowers creamy white. Photo. Flowers in ethanol. Phenology of specimen: Flower.
