Georeferencing Method
Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. No reference could be found that provides the exact location of the place called Jatiboca, in Mun. Itaguaçu, Espirito Santo. However, a related place, Cemitério (cemetary) do Baixo Jatiboca (-19.955047, -40.883825) was found within this municipality. An elementary school called Eeuef Alto Limoeiro Jatibocas (-19.875499, -40.875656) was also found in the nearest large town to the cemetery, Itarana. A website titled "Portal de Alto Jatibocas" was also found (http://portaldealtojatibocas.blogspot.com/2011_10_14_archive.html) which seems to provide information for the people living in the area of Jatibocas, and that website lists the weather forecast for the town of Itarana, which provides more support that Itarana is the closet town to Jatibocas. Several other collections in the database are also reported to be collected in or near Jatiboca, some of which have coordinates which fall in this same general area, but low coordinate precision and a high degree of variation between them eliminates the possibility of safely using any of them directly as a basis for this georeference. Instead, georeferenced to the closest point within a natural landscape (forest) to the Cemitério do Baixo Jatiboca, assumed to be close to the center of Jatiboca. Using Google Maps - Satellite View, and What's Here tool, found coordinates (final) for this point. To determine linear extent, used Google Maps - Measure Distance tool to measure a straight line from the final coordinates to the farthest extent of the town of Itarana (-19.861259, -40.875529), which was determined to be the closest town to Jatiboca, and can therefore be used as a reasonable proxy for the farthest extent of Jatiboca. Input linear extent (10415.5 m), coordinate precision (0.00001 degrees), datum (WGS84), and measurement error (0.5 m) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius (according to Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Named Place: Defined area).
