HERBARIUM OF IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY BRAZIL Merostachys sp. Santa Catarina: BR-470, Rio do Sul-Curitibanos, about 8 km W of Pouso Redondo, Morro dos Pires, 380 m. 50°01'W, 27°16'S. In secondary forest by a pasture. Culms erect at base, arching and clambering above, to 2-3 cm in diameter, to 5 m long. Internodes completely glabrous, green, glaucous when young even under the culm leaves, with a band of whitish hairs about 0.5 cm wide above and below each node, lower internodes 20-30 cm long, upper ones to 50 cm long. Culm leaves and foliage leaves lacking fimbriae. Common, seen in montane forest up to 850 m along road. Treated with 70% EtOH. 10 March 1991 L.
